There’s nothing like enjoying a nice, refreshing swim. One great place to go for a fun (and free) swim is the Settlement Cove (Redcliffe) Lagoon in Redcliffe. Located in front of Redcliffe Parade, this 95m long paradise beside the sea is the perfect place to have a fun day out. It’s also open all year round, making it a great alternative to pools which are closed during the colder months.
The lagoon has multiple parts to it which make it a great place to play. There is a fenced off pool area made just for much younger children. The area is well shaded and contains mushroom fountains and squirting lizards. Along the edges of the main lagoon are sandy bays. The water is shallower here, perfect for little ones. As you go further into the lagoon it gets progressively deeper, so more competent swimmers can have fun. In the centre of the lagoon is an island. The inlets and rocks surrounding this island allow for plenty of play opportunities. At the very end of the lagoon is a miniature river and riverbed. There is plenty of space to wade around in and it’s a really popular spot with the kids. If you want to rest while watching the kids play, there is plenty of space surrounding the lagoon to sit down on. This includes benches and areas to place towels down on. Most of the sitting spaces are situated on hills, giving a good view onto the lagoon.
There are also BBQs available for use making the lagoon a perfect place for a picnic. If you’d prefer to buy food, you have plenty of options to choose from. There is a kiosk right next to the lagoon, providing a variety of hot foods and ice creams. Alternatively, Redcliffe Parade is just in front of the Lagoon. Right beside the lagoon is an awesome shaded children’s playground. This playground includes a sand play area, swings and a slide. It is currently being renovated, so expect some more fun additions to it in the future!
If you feel like going for a shop, consider visiting the shops along the Redcliffe waterfront. Right beside the lagoon, these stores include clothing shops, lolly shops, gem stores and op shops. Bee Gees Way is close by as well, so if you’re a Bee Gee’s fan be sure to give it a visit and snap a selfie with Barry #BeeGeesWay.
Redcliffe Parade is also home to the Redcliffe Jetty Markets held every Sunday from 8am. The markets are very popular with locals and their fur babies (dog friendly market), selling everything from fresh local produce and seafood, to food trucks, handmade gifts and trinkets. Located in Clontarf, stage one of the Hays Inlet Eco Path has recently opened to the public. This path was made available in August 2019 for all members of the public to observe and become aware of the natural value of this remaining wetland.
Deception Bay has a rich history, from The Gubbi Gubbi – the traditional owners of the area to the establishment of a Moreton Bay penal colony. The Deception Bay Heritage Trail covers about four kilometres and can be completed in a 90-minute stroll.
In the lower reaches of Saltwater Creek off Bramble Bay, Hays Inlet is bordered by Anzac Avenue to the north, Houghton Highway to the east, Dohles Rocks to the south and the Bruce Highway to the west. This convenient location allows for simple access from any direction.
For things to do in Redcliffe head to Woody Point Jetty. With spectacular views and great fishing spots it's a day out the whole family can enjoy.
