Located on the Bald Hills flats along the banks of South Pine River, Pine Rivers Park is one of the most popular public recreation spaces in the Strathpine region. With wide open grassed areas, shaded picnic areas and an array of wild water birds, Pine Rivers Park is a destination everyone can enjoy.
There’s a flying fox and climbing frame nestled amongst the mature Norfolk Pine trees, and a garden maze surrounded by a pedal train track means there’s plenty to keep big kids amused. Little kids will be safe in the fully fenced and tree-shaded playground with slide and swings, and a covered table and benches mean mum can sit and chat and still keep an eye on the happenings. A recent addition to the park is an exclusive toddler playground, complete with toddler-height activities, sandpit and swings set behind a fence and softfall.
There are no shops within walking distance of the park, so come prepared with snacks; there are water bubblers if drink bottles are empty. A small portion of the softfall outside the playground is currently fenced off to dry out after recent wet weather. A busy playground most weekends, and after school, Pine Rivers Park is a fun afternoon adventure when the kids have energy to burn.
A new mega-picnic shelter and bike path has been created at Pine Rivers Park. The picnic area provides a great space for large family gatherings, with new picnic tables, BBQs and ample shade, all designed with families in mind.
Teaching your kids to ride a bike? Take them to the brand new 950m path built in the expansive parklands of Pine Rivers Park. This safe, flat path is perfect for all ages. This path will eventually form part of a two and a half kilometer track around the circumference of Pine Rivers Park.
The park hosts plenty of carpark space, toilets, barbeques and wide open green spaces, making it a top venue for birthday parties and group outings. Kids parties are especially fun at Pine River Park, imagine your little super hero’s flying down the flying fox, climbing the spider webs or playing a game of ‘red rover’ on the grassy flats. Being a popular weekend ‘party in the park’ destination, it is a good idea to head down early if you wish to utilise the parks picnic shelters or BBQ areas. Alternatively, bring down a gazebo or host a picnic under the trees!
Unknown by most, including the locals, is the Pine Rivers Disc Golf Course located within the park. This nine hole Disc Golf Course wraps around the main playground and lake area of the park, nestled in the trees for that extra challenge!
The Rules of Disc Golf are similar to traditional golf, you’re just using a frisbee instead of a tee and ball!
Aside from the diversity of playgrounds and recreation spaces, Pine Rivers Park offers an opportunity for visitors to engage with nature. Pathways and walking tracks weave through native woodlands, which wrap around the parks small lake teaming with fish, tadpoles and wild water birds. You may even spot a few chicks out on the lake under the watchful eye of their mothers. A nature lovers paradise.
Recent rebuilding and landscaping has seen the addition of an amphitheater in Pine Rivers Park for community events. Several events, including the Decades Festival and Christmas in the Park are held annually, with other fetes and markets spread throughout the calendar.
Aside from music and community events, the park is also used by several northside schools for cross country events.
