As you come across the bridge onto Hornibrook Esplanade, you'll find Pelican Park to your right, overlooking Bramble Bay. Notable for its prominent Visitors Centre, Pelican Park extends from Thomas St to Maine St, with a playground featured at both ends of the park.
The main park area, behind the Visitors Centre, has plenty of parking, and access to a boat ramp. The playground is to the right of the car park as you face the water, past the toilets and next to shelter and barbecues. There is also a wheelchair accessible swing - a liberty swing, the key to access the swing is available from Moreton Bay Regional Council on (07) 3205 0555.
There is plenty of shade over both fully fenced areas.
The other playground, towards Woody Point, can be reached by walking along the path across a bridge over the canal, or taking a short drive around to the car park. A large shelter and a barbecue space is located beside the fully fenced playground. There is a small toilet block a 5 minute walk away on the other side of the car park.
If hunger hits, there’s a few cafes dotted up and down the opposite side of the road, an IGA supermarket is within driving distance and a service station is just right across the road.
With its boat ramp, Pelican Park has become an increasingly popular destination for jet skiers who like to take advantage of the open tidal waters of Bramble Bay.
Aside from being popular with jet skiers, the winds off the bay make the location perfect for kite surfing, which is probably why the park is also home to the Redcliffe Kite Club who once a month fly their colourful and stunning kites in the park for all to enjoy.
Quiet during the week, Pelican Park is often the site of busy community events on the weekend, including the Redcliffe KiteFest event held in August every year. So avoid disappointment and check the event calendar on this website before heading out.
There's no better backdrop to a park wedding then Moreton Bay. Pelican Park has several wedding/function areas which can be booked for weddings or similar special celebrations via the wedding application on the Moreton Bay Regional Council website.
Made in conjunction with Stockland Newport and the Touched by Olivia Foundation, Spinnaker Park is an all-abilities playground in north Brisbane that ensures children of all abilities can play together, including those with physical disabilities and spectrum disorders such as autism.
Located in Clontarf, stage one of the Hays Inlet Eco Path has recently opened to the public. This path was made available in August 2019 for all members of the public to observe and become aware of the natural value of this remaining wetland.
Deception Bay has a rich history, from The Gubbi Gubbi – the traditional owners of the area to the establishment of a Moreton Bay penal colony. The Deception Bay Heritage Trail covers about four kilometres and can be completed in a 90-minute stroll.
In the lower reaches of Saltwater Creek off Bramble Bay, Hays Inlet is bordered by Anzac Avenue to the north, Houghton Highway to the east, Dohles Rocks to the south and the Bruce Highway to the west. This convenient location allows for simple access from any direction.
